Overview of the Unit
4 West is a 36-bed medical/telemetry unit that specializes in stroke care management. 4 South is a 30-bed overflow unit that services the same patient population.
Job Types on the Unit
4 West and 4 South employ registered nurses (RNs), certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and unit coordinators.
Qualifications:
- Nevada RN license
- Nevada CNA license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NIH certification within 6 months of employment
New graduates are welcome.
What to Expect When Working on This Unit
Nurses, CNAs and UCs who are new to this unit will receive individualized orientation based on their current experience. All staff members work 12-hour shifts and are required to work two weekends each month, as well as rotate to cover holidays. We focus on family and patient centered care and pride ourselves in our service excellence.
Our goal is to maintain a patient to nursing ratio of six to one, with two CNAs per shift. 4 West is a Designated Education Units that works with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing to help train and mold the nurses of the future. You will be a part of an established team with a strong culture in teamwork and positive growth. In addition to working together, the staff builds teamwork through social events and gettogethers. We have a multicultural staff, and an appreciation and understanding for all cultural practices and beliefs. We believe in open communication and personal as well as peer accountability.
Educational Opportunities
The Valley Health System (VHS) offers continuing education via the Healthstream online learning system to help nurses remain current with all required continuing education. Staff members are also offered opportunities to attend conferences and classes that can help enhance their practice. There are several classes offered through The Valley University that are easily accessible to all staff. We also offer tuition reimbursement for staff members who are enrolled in degree programs.
